Is it standard practice to paint door hinges?

I recently had a contractot paint my entire house. He painted all the door hinges. He said that painting door hinges is standard practice. Is this true?

this is actually a tricky question because i have lived in france and seen many many houses with there door hinges painted, however when living in australia which is my true home they door hinges are rearly painted.. you can find many color coated hinges on the market and this would be a better rout to take in my opinion.. the problem is if the the hinges are not 100% new an or clean eventaully the paint will peal from the hinges.. also every day movement of the hinges will probably wear the paint off anyway.. so my advice is depending on what country you live in you should you should ask the contactor not to paint them..
